Dermoscopy for the diagnosis of melanoma: primary care diagnostic technology update.

چکیده
ADVANTAGESOVEREXISTING TECHNOLOGY Early detection of melanoma is the single most promising strategy to cut mortality rates of this disorder.1 Thus far, most skin disease is diagnosed by simple visual inspection and biopsy. Two factors directly influence clinical practice and patient management: first, the ability to identify lesions correctly that have the potential to be melanoma; and second, the number of skin excisions performed to confirm diagnosis. Dermoscopy isa technique for theanalysisof pigmented skin lesions. This technique represents a link between clinical and histological views. It also helps in the diagnosis of many other pigmented skin lesions that can mimic melanoma; such as, seborrheic keratosis, pigmented basal cell carcinoma, haemangioma, blue naevus, atypical naevus, and benign naevus. Dermoscopic monitoring of pigmented lesions increases the likelihood that featureless melanomas are not overlooked andminimises theexcisionofbenign lesions.

A New Algorithm for Skin Lesion Border Detection in Dermoscopy Images
Background: With advances in medical imaging systems, digital dermoscopy has become one of the major imaging modalities in the analysis of skin lesions. Thus, automated segmentation or border detection has a great impact on the subsequent steps of skin cancer computer-aided diagnosis using demoscopy images. Since dermoscopy images suffer from artifacts such as shading and hair, there is a need ...
متن کاملAspects on in vivo imaging techniques for diagnostics of pigmented skin lesions
Problem: Non-invasive diagnostic techniques to facilitate diagnosis of pigmented skin lesions (PSL) are being developed. Dermoscopy and SIAscopy are two such techniques, and they are evaluated in this thesis. Aims: Pp I: To investigate if primary care physicians (PCPs) improve their ability to diagnose melanoma using dermoscopy after a short education intervention. Pp II: To describe relevant m...

British Journal of General Practice, April 2011 primary care, none had a possible diagnosis of melanoma on the request form, delaying pathological diagnosis, impeding clinico-pathological correlation, and correct diagnosis. Dermatologists expected melanoma in 54/60 and plastic surgeons in 29/43. Modern dermatological diagnosis of melanoma assisted by dermoscopy has a high sensitivity of 0.88 an...
متن کاملDermoscopy for melanoma detection in family practice.
OBJECTIVE To assess the diagnostic accuracy and clinical utility of dermoscopy for melanoma detection in family practice. QUALITY OF EVIDENCE Ovid MEDLINE (1946 to June 2011), EMBASE, PubMed, and Cochrane databases were searched using the following terms: dermoscopy, dermatoscopy, epiluminescence microscopy, family practice, general practice, primary health care, melanoma, skin neoplasms, and...
متن کاملActinic Keratosis and Non-Invasive Diagnostic Techniques: An Update
Actinic keratosis represents the earliest manifestation of non-melanoma skin cancer. Because of their risk of progression to invasive squamous cell carcinoma, an earlier diagnosis and treatment are mandatory. Their diagnosis sometimes could represent a challenge even for expert dermatologists. Dermoscopy, confocal laser microscopy and optical coherence tomography could help clinicians in diagno...
